Switch to Sustainable Transportation

Have you ever considered how much pollution can come from the way we get around every day? Whether driving to school, work, or just running errands, transportation has a major impact on greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and the climate.

Let’s start by answering the question: What are greenhouse gas emissions? These are the gases that are released into the air that trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. This happens because when we use transportation like cars, they burn fossil fuels like gasoline, which releases those gases as well as air pollution. As a result, this comes face to face with global warming, leading to climate change, another environmental issue happening worldwide. But here’s the good news—there are better ways to get to places without burning fossil fuels. You can help the environment and even yourself!

When you take public transit, bike, or even walk, you contribute significantly to the environment and yourself in three ways. One, you reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that are released, which is helpful for climate change and keeps the air cleaner and more favorable for our lungs. Two, biking and walking keep your body moving and exercising. Even taking the subway means that you are getting more steps in compared to driving. And finally, sustainable transportation means that there is reduced traffic and more money saved.

Now we know ways that you can help, but take a look at the future of sustainable transportation, it’s pretty exciting. Electric vehicles (EVs) are better for the environment because they don’t release greenhouse gas emissions. They work by using cleaner energy like solar and wind power. Maritime and air travel are also being updated so that less fuel is used and pollution is reduced. Trains powered by clean electricity are also facing more improvements, and smart technology is used to operate them better.

These sustainable transportation methods and future directions are all fighting climate change and air pollution, and introducing their cost-effectiveness and healthiness for people. You, too, can be part of this fight!
