Let’s Change Without Climate Change

The other day my mother was preparing a healthy snack for me. She cut up some carrots, cucumbers, peppers, and other vegetables with ranch on the side (because ranch makes everything much better). However, when I was served the vegetables, I noticed something odd. They appeared much smaller than they should’ve. Rather than looking large and normal-sized, they appeared smaller and non-normal-sized. This may seem like a ‘coincidence,’ but trust me, IT’s NOT.

So, I began to do some research into it and I realized that the leading cause of this is climate change. Climate change is a problem today because it can cause droughts, floods, storms, and even heat waves. These droughts can come back and kill plants and damage the soil, causing food insecurity for people because of a limitation in agriculture.

Climate change can be caused by various factors, including using too many fossil fuels, deforestation, and agriculture. For example, we release fossil fuels when we drive our cars. Similarly, cutting down too many trees releases many fossil fuels, which is also very bad for the environment. Finally, fertilizers and livestock digestion release fossil fuels into the atmosphere. Such a problem, right? You're right; it is a big problem, but every problem has a solution. And this one is super easy. Just stop using fossil fuels! Just walk to school/work and don’t use factories; it's easy! But we can’t do that. Instead, we can regulate. Instead of ten people driving to one place, we can carpool, and only two people need to drive, with five people in each car. And instead of cutting down trees as much as we do, we can reduce our consumption of trees and wood-based items. And finally, we can do more sustainable agriculture, so we don’t use too many fertilizers and pesticides, which release harmful chemicals and substances into the air. A great example of how we can do this is by implementing drought-resistant crops. In this way, climate change also doesn’t affect agriculture, and our environment is still somewhat saved.

To conclude, what is climate change? Our climate is changing, causing heat shocks and heat waves because of fossil fuels. And how do we stop it? We can stop it by taking the next step. Because we are the reason and we are the change.
